THE SHEA THEATRE CHARITABLE CONCERT SERIES

Boston Ad Agency executive and PH Productions (PHP) Founder, Peter Hackel returns to his musical roots at The Shea Theatre in Turners Falls where in 1977, at age seventeen, he worked as a studio musician and drummer with Renaissance Community leader Mike Rapunzel. Hackel was also executive producer and drummer on “Spirit In Flesh II” the Country re-make of the original Sprit In Flesh debut rock album recorded at the Shea. Hackel then went on to manage and play with “The Cheri Gates Band” and co-founded the Pioneer Valley hit group “The Race” with long time area resident John Sullivan.

Since September 11th, Hackel has dedicated his music career to helping worthy causes. “When my Dad’s wife was killed on American Flight 11, I committed to helping the organizations I felt Paige herself would support”. Since that time, PHP has created or enhanced over 35 charitable events helping to raise hundreds of thousands of dollars along the way.

Now, with the help of Greenfield resident Jerry Girard, PHP will produce a series of benefit concerts sponsored in part by WCCC (Hartford), The Smokin’ Hippo (owned and operated by GCC's long time cafeteria manager, Gary Weiss), The Hallmark Museum of Contemporary Photography, The US Army and others. The series at the Shea kicks off on Saturday January 20th featuring a band that Hackel is helping to produce from Boston. “Final Hour is an up and coming rock band which will cater to a younger crowd. Therefore, we have chosen The Brick House Community Resource Center in Turners to receive a portion of the proceeds from the evening. In addition the show will feature one of the young bands from the center’s music department”.

The series continues on Friday, March 23rd with a benefit for the Opening Gaits Therapeutic Riding Center in Gill. Headlining will be Danny Klein and Friends: “Celebrating The Music of the J. Geils Band” featuring an eight piece group with Danny Klein, original founding member of J. Geils on bass, Rosy Rosenblatt (Susan Tedeschi producer) harp, The Heavy Metal Horns and Hackel on drums. The two-hour musical marathon will include all the classic Geils hits. “This is the first time I have been willing to put my name on anything Geils related other than with my original band mates” states DK. “These guys do the material justice creating the energy, fun and musicality needed to pull something like this off”. Joining DK and Friends will be very special guests “Bennie and The Jets” (Elton John tribute) along with local veteran rockers “Ambush”.

Be part of the community that supports Opening Gaits Therapeutic Riding Center.  OGTRC works with individuals with physical, emotional and cognitive disorders through the benefits of therapeutic riding and horsemanship. Your $50 donation to the riding center gets you into the VIP party before the concert.  Food and beverages provided by The Smokin’ Hippo and The People’s Pint.  Please contact  Opening Gaits at 863-0002 for your tickets now.

Other shows are scheduled for August through November 2007 with a summer event planned to raise money for the Shea itself. Tickets for the series will be available at Strawberries and the World Eye Book Store in Greenfield.
